[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As a style blogger and mama-to-be, I’ve really enjoyed exploring a new area of fashion: maternity and motherhood wear. I’ve never truly paid much attention to this category to be perfectly honest. I didn’t have a reason to. When I first became pregnant, I got away with wearing my regular clothing for a while. I lucked out in that it was summer and many of my flowy dresses still fit and easily concealed the bump. But after some time, I started feeling uncomfortable in non-maternity pieces, and when your body is rapidly changing, that’s not ok. So, I ventured into the unfamiliar aisles flanked by mannequins flaunting their glorious bumps and started to poke around the racks.

Did I feel some trepidation? Sure. Was I out of my element? Yep. Did I know what to look for? Not a clue. In some cases, I wasn’t even sure what I was looking at.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4701″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the last 6 months I’ve learned a thing or two about selecting and styling pieces that serve my needs during pregnancy, can also be worn postpartum, and make me feel like one stylish mama on the daily. Whether you need casual clothing inspo or are dolling yourself up for a much-needed night on the town, I’ve styled two looks that make me feel comfortable and confident as I approach motherhood and learn to dress this ever-changing body.

Casual Cute Mama

When selecting casual pieces for everyday wear choose separates that complement one another but can also be combined with other items in your wardrobe. Since maternity clothing will be something you wear frequently during a specific period of time, you want to get the most wear out of a few key pieces.

As it’s currently autumn, I was drawn to this season’s neutrals such as this rust orange top and grey jeans. Both items easily pair with other maternity pieces in my wardrobe too. I’ve worn this cozy sweater with jeans, olive-colored pants (also snagged from PinkBlush, find them here), and simple black bottoms. To add interest and layers for warmth, I can throw a sweater or vest overtop as well. The tie detail accentuates my belly and creates some shape (so I don’t feel like an oversized blob) and I’ve been able to adjust how tightly I knot it as my bump has grown. This one definitely passes the versatility test where cut and colour are concerned.

I love a distressed grey pant as it creates a relaxed vibe and looks great with oh so many shades. Everything from deep burgundy, maroon, to navy. Grey truly is just one of those neutrals that pairs easily with just about anything. If it can be worn with jeans, it can probably be worn with grey. This functionality is so crucial when creating your pregnancy wardrobe, as you can so easily get bored wearing the same few trousers over and over. If you’re tired of various combinations of tops with the same pair of basic jeans, add a grey, beige, olive, even a mocha-coloured denim to your arsenal to change it up.

Classy Confident Mama

Who says you can’t feel sexy and confident while sporting a baby bump? Not only is it possible, it’s absolutely integral.

If you’re heading out on a night on the town or to a special event such as a baby shower, chances are you’re going to be the center of attention. I mean, once the bump grows large enough even complete strangers can’t help but look and comment on the miracle that is your round belly. I find that I sometimes forget that it’s there as I go about my day, but the smiling and pointing always makes me grin and confirm that yes, I am in fact brewing a baby.

If you don’t feel good about yourself and your new body it may be difficult to embrace all of this sudden recognition. Although this is your daily reality and you’re probably used to being pregnant, it’s continually exciting for friends and family. But, it will be over before you know it and you won’t have nature’s finest accessory to flaunt anymore, so why not make it the centrepiece of your look while you still can?

Wearing PinkBlush floral print maternity dress (currently only $20). Thrifted purse, Tahari sweater (similar here), and Aldo boots.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I say embrace the bump. A body-conscious dress has helped me to do just that. Details such as side-ruching, belts, or an empire waist create shape and bring the belly to the forefront, helping you to feel cute and confident in your new skin. Besides, you never have to ‘suck it in’ with the baby excuse and have got some killer bombshell curves with the bump in tow. Bring on all the form-fitting attire!

I like this piece as it can be worn with a cute cropped jacket, blazer, longline or bolero sweater. In cooler temperatures, it can be paired with a peacoat, solid-coloured tights, knee-high socks, or over-knee boots as seen here. Adaptable pieces are the name of the game to get the most out of your maternity wear.

The floral pattern on this dress is feminine while the darker colour palette allows me to wear this in the fall and in the spring alike (you never know when your maternity wardrobe may come in handy with future pregnancies as well). Choose colours that complement your skin tone and pieces that include flirty details like lace, ruffles, mermaid hemlines, or scalloped edges. Pregnancy is the perfect time to celebrate womanhood, and you can feel like a bumpin-bombshell while you’re at it.

As your body transforms it’s immensely important that you feel good in your ever-changing skin. Feeling confident and comfortable is especially important during this time of transition. Be sensible with your purchases and choose clothing that is functional and will serve your needs during pregnancy and beyond. It can be hard to get used to your new appearance and feel like yourself throughout the process, wearing the right clothing can make all the difference.
